(From Southern News Service)

A Missouri Southern State University student passed away Sunday morning after being found unresponsive in his bedroom in the residence halls.

Lorenzo Jones, a 19-year-old music education major from St. Louis, was unable to be resuscitated byemergency personnel. Authorities say he may have been suffering from complications due to diabetes, and that he had received medical treatment earlier in the week.

Jones was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Darren Fullerton, vice president for student affairs, worked with hospital staff to contact Jones’ family, and said that counseling services would be provided to the student’s friends.

“It’s heartbreaking when a person passes away so young, and I want to thank the students, the Student Affairs staff, and the medical personnel who responded this morning,” said Missouri Southern President Alan Marble. “Lorenzo was a member of the Lion family, and he, like all of our students, was here to build a better future for himself. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this most difficult time.”
