(From the City of Joplin)
City officials and community members will be joined by U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) representatives during the formal opening of the 20th Street Overpass project. The event is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 11. It will be held on the south side of 20th Street and New Hampshire Avenue.
This grade separation is the final of five projects funded through the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) discretionary grant program awarded by the DOT in July 2012. Other projects included in this grant were the widening of Schifferdecker Avenue, Maiden Lane and 26th Street, and the development of the 20th Street Transit Pedestrian and Bicycle project.
The Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors will hold a ribbon-cutting following comments by Public Works Director Nick Heatherly, Joplin Mayor Mike Seibert, and DOT official David Howard.
The public is welcome to attend this community event.
