Fire under the passenger seat injures Carthage man

A Carthage man was injured in a one-vehicle accident 10:50 p.m. Thursday on I-49 five miles north of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a fire started under the passenger seat of a 2000 Buick Sedan driven by Darrell G. Thornton, 33, Carthage, was the vehicle was in motion.

Thornton drove the car to the shoulder and then burned his hand while getting out of the vehicle.

Thornton was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.
