On 1/21/2018 at approximately 12:40 a.m officers with the Joplin Police Department responded to 50th and Main for a fatality crash.
Richard Hernandez, 57, Mount Vernon, Missouri was northbound on Main on a 2003 Harley Davidson. He failed to negotiate the roundabout, struck a curb and was ejected. He was pronounced dead on scene. Both speed and alcohol were involved in this crash. This is Joplin’s first fatality crash of 2018.
A second motorcyclist that was riding with Hernandez and was trying to catch up to him to slow him down, also crashed at the same location. That operator had minor injuries. The two motorcycles did not impact each other, and were separate but related crashes.

Very sad.
