On 1-23-2018 at 1:48 p.m. the Joplin Police Department received a call about an impaired driver.
The caller was following a family member at 7th and Schifferdecker and said the driver was possibly under the influence of narcotics and driving erratic.
Shortly after, a Joplin Police detective who had heard the call and was at Junge and Maiden Lane, saw the described vehicle driving southbound on Maiden Lane. When he attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle accelerated, failed to stop for the steady red light at 20th and Maiden Lane and struck a westbound SUV at approximately 1:51pm.
The driver of the vehicle that caused the crash was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries and is being processed for driving under the influence of drugs by officers. An adult passenger of the SUV was also transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. No names are being released.
