Jasper Police issues nine citations during traffic enforcement detail

(From the Jasper Police Department)

Traffic Enforcement Detail

Jasper PD Officers hit the highway today for a traffic enforcement detail to slow down traffic on the highway and to get those who fail to move over into the inside lane for emergency vehicles who are on the side of the road with emergency lights activated.

In about four hours work, officers stopped 19 vehicles and issued nine citations.

Two of the nine citations were for “failure to move over for emergency vehicles."

One car that came very close to an officer who was exiting his vehicle did get away due to traffic conditions and other officers not being able to get caught up in time.

Missouri's "slow down and move over" law was expanded Tuesday to include state Department of Transportation vehicles displaying amber and white flashing lights. ... Under the new law, motorists will have to slow down or change lanes when approaching the vehicles.

The law also protects MoDot/Road workers, Tow Truck Operators, Fire and medical personnel and of course law enforcement.
