Public meeting scheduled to discuss Joplin neighborhood recovery plans

(From the City of Joplin)

The City will host an open house public meeting from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 20, at the Joplin Public Library Community Room, located at 1901 East 20th Street, to review plans for a neighborhood recovery project in an area from Main Street to Ohio Avenue and 14th to 20th Street.

Surface Project 4008 includes the replacement of damaged sidewalks, curb & gutters, storm water inlets & pipes, ADA ramps at corners, and street pavement.

Citizens are encouraged to stop by any time during these hours and view the plans of the upcoming project. City engineers and representatives of Emery Sapp and Sons, the project contractor, will be available during the meeting to share details and answer questions from those attending.

This project is one of several in the area focused on repairing damaged public infrastructure in residential areas. The recovery work is funded by HUD’s Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program. No monies from the City’s budget are used for this or other recovery projects.

With this grant funding, HUD also issues deadlines for work to be completed. Joplin’s recovery work is due to be completed by the latter part of 2019. More information about this project, as well as all of the recovery projects, can be found at http://Joplingis.org/Dashboard .

For questions, please contact, Jack Schaller, Construction Manager w/ Olsson Associates, at 417-781-0643, or Dan Johnson, City Project Engineer, at 417-624-0820, ext. 538.
