(From the MSSU Choral Society)
The MSSU Choral Society's annual patriotic concert will take place Sunday, July 29, 3:00 p.m., St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 2423 W. 26th St., Joplin. It will be Dr. Al Carnine’s final concert as conductor of the chorus he founded and has been its continuous Artistic Director for over 38 years. All former choral society members are welcome to attend his last time conducting the Choral Society.
The well-known and ever popular 40-voice area-wide mixed choir will present a variety of patriotic music in support of and in honor of our armed services.
The concert features a patriotic cantata “I Believe in America” with narrator Gayle Tuck of Joplin. Arranged by Bob Krogstad, this tribute to our country is a flag-waving selection full of energy and excitement that will inspire all who attend.
Other selections include a lighthearted look at familiar tunes from TV sitcoms, arranged by Mac Huff, and a salute to the armed forces. Also included is the uplifting anthem "Praise the Lord, Be Joyful" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
Clint Newby is the Society’s accompanist. Dr, Susan Smith has been named to conduct the Choral Society in the fall.
