Joplin Police investigating homicide at 2809 Santa Fe

On July 23, 2018 at 8:14 p.m. the Joplin Police Department was dispatched to 2809 Santa Fe for a call of an assault with an injured person. Officers arrived and located a deceased male on scene. Detectives were called to the scene to investigate.

A suspect and suspect vehicle was identified and attempts began to locate both. The Jasper County Sheriff's Department was later dispatched to a vehicle fire in Jasper County on Elm Road near county road 160.

The suspect vehicle in our homicide investigation was located on scene on fire. The Jasper County Sheriff's Department is handling that scene but it is believed the suspect is no longer a threat.

The investigation is ongoing in this case. We aren't seeking any other suspects at this time.No further updates are expected until tomorrow.
