(From the City of Joplin)
Intersection work along 20th Street to install decorative concrete to the areas begins July 30. A colorized terra cotta concrete will be poured at both 20th Street intersections at Connecticut Avenue and Indiana Avenue. These will be similar to intersections along Main Street.
Starting Monday, July 30, Indiana Avenue will be closed for both northbound and southbound traffic at 20th Street. Traffic along 20th Street will experience lane shifts while road is reduced to two lanes, allowing one lane for each direction. This closure is due to decorative concrete work being completed within the intersection. The work is anticipated to take two weeks.
Work will begin on the intersection at 20th Street and Connecticut Avenue on Monday, August 6 as crews work on the radiuses of this intersection. Traffic may be reduced to one lane each direction, but both Connecticut Avenue and 20th Street will remain open during this week.
Starting Monday, August 13, the intersection at 20th Street and Connecticut Avenue will be closed to traffic traveling in both directions. Traffic will be detoured around this intersection. The work on this phase of the intersection is anticipated to take three weeks.
This work is one of the last phases of the projects. The recently laid asphalt pavement along 20th Street had to cure prior to this installation. City engineers have noted that placing colorized terra cotta concrete in the crosswalks is an effective method to alert drivers to pedestrians, without a lot of added cost. D&E Plumbing is the contractor on this project.
Motorists are urged to find an alternate route during this time. Signage will be placed to alert traffic to the 20th Street intersections of Connecticut Avenue and Indiana Avenue. This project is funded through the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery program from HUD.

The City appreciates your patience during the construction work.
