Newsmakers programs to focus on Joplin tax proposal, Webb City economic development

(From Southern News Service)

Two upcoming Newsmakers interview programs produced by KGCS-TV focus on Webb City and Joplin. They are being produced at the station, utilizing the new TriCaster TC1 switcher in the studio for the first time, providing additional learning experiences for students.

The interview focusing on Webb City features City Administrator Carl Francis and Mayor Lynn Ragsdale. They discuss economic development in the city, including retail growth in the East Road area. The program airs throughout the week of July 22, at 5:30 p.m. and other times. It is scheduled to air on KOAM at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 28.

The interview about Joplin takes a look at the use tax proposal on the August 7 ballot. It features Drew Kimble and Amber Duncan from the Citizen Tax Committee, appointed by the Joplin City Council, as well as Joplin Finance Director Leslie Haase. They will explain the details of the proposal. The program is scheduled to air at 5:30 p.m. in the evenings throughout the week of July 29 on KGCS, and at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, August 4 on KOAM.

These programs mark the transition this summer to the new state-of-the-art video production system for studio productions, using the TriCaster TC1 switcher. The system replaces the old switcher that had been used by student for more than 20 years.

“This new equipment provides another level of hands-on learning for our students,” says Judy Stiles, KGCS General Manager. “Students in the television practicum course this summer are working on production. We look forward to having even more students able to learn the new system when classes start in August.”

KGCS is operated as a service of the Department of Communication at MSSU. Programming can be viewed on digital channel 22, as well as regional cable television systems. Programs such as Newsmakers are also posted on the station site, “KGCS Missouri Southern.”
