Eight-year-old Carthage boy airlifted to Mercy Springfield following motorcycle-car collision

Two Carthage residents were injured in a two-vehicle collision 7:45 p.m. Sunday on Cimarron Road, a half mile east of Chapel Road.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic driven by Shaun A. Niblett, 39, Carthage, struck the rear of a 1981 Honda motorcycle driven by Erik D. Brotherton, 45, Carthage, ejecting both occupants of the motorcycle.

Brotherton was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

A passenger on Brotherton's vehicle, Santiago S. Cardena, 8, Carthage, was airlifted to Mercy Hospital, Springfield, with serious injuries.

(Note: This post has been changed after initially saying the motorcycle had struck the car in the rear. I apologize for the error.)
