Drivers can expect lane closures and occasional traffic delays on I-49 in Barton and Newton counties for a resurfacing project beginning the week of August 5, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Contractor crews will add an overlay of new asphalt, permanent striping, rumble strips and new guardrail in areas along an approximately 50-mile stretch of I-49 between U.S. Route 54 in Nevada and U.S. Route 160 in Lamar.

Drivers may encounter closed ramps where crews are working

Work will be done during daytime hours; however, some areas will remain closed during nighttime hours

No signed detour

Drivers should find alternate routes

Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zones

Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts

Drivers are urged to use caution as they may experience a rough ride in areas until the resurfacing project is complete.
