The 52nd annual International Film Festival will conclude with a screening of the 1956 Polish film “Shadow (Cien)” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aprill 8, in Cornell Auditorium in Plaster Hall.
Directed by Jarzy Kawalerowicz, the suspenseful conspiracy thriller presents three possible accounts of a dead man’s life and activities in a manner which recalls Akira Kurosawa’s “Rashomon.” Though the film established Kawalerowicz as a leading filmmaker, it did not sit well with authorities, as all of the key players – security agents, detectives, coroners and officials – are immersed in a heavy atmosphere that screams repression.
“Shadow” was nominated for the Golden Palm at the 1956 Cannes Festival.
Presented by the Missouri Southern Film Society and the Institute of International Studies, admission is free and open to the public.
