Southern student awarded $10,000 scholarship to study in China

Matthew Roy, a junior international studies major from Carthage, has been awarded a $10,000 Study in China Scholarship by the Chinese Ministry of Education in Beijing.

Roy, who is minoring in Chinese and serving president of the Asian Club at Missouri Southern, will attend the Communication University of China (CUC) in Beijing during the 2014-15 academic year. Missouri Southern and CUC have had a partner relationship since 2004.

Ten American undergraduate students attending American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) member institutions were awarded the scholarships, which provide tuition, room and board, health insurance, conference fees and a stipend.

The other scholarship recipients are from Bowling Green State University, Western Kentucky University, California State University-Long Beach, Indiana University-Kokomo, the University of North Georgia, New Jersey City University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the University of Southern Indiana

CUC is one of the top public universities in China. It is ranked No.1 in China for media education and language education.
