MSSU activities for the week of November 9-13

Students at Missouri Southern State University will have a chance to explore opportunities to broaden their horizons during the Study Abroad Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Billingsly Student Center’s Connor Ballroom.
Presented by the Institute of International Studies, the fair will spotlight the faculty-led, short-term trips scheduled for 2016 as well as opportunities for students to spend an entire semester or year abroad through the International Student Exchange Program, the Missouri London program and Missouri Southern’s partner universities.
The faculty-led trips are for academic credit. Missouri Southern students who have a 2.5 GPA and full-time status are eligible for $1,000 study abroad grants.
Opportunities include Community Health in the British Virgin Islands (March 10-18), Contemporary Art & Design in the United Kingdom (March 15-26), Literary Paris (May 14-25) and Law & Order: United Kingdom Edition (May 15-25).
Other events planned on campus next week include Veterans Week activities, a lesson and performance by nation’s premiere Spanish and flamenco dance company, and action on the court as the men’s basketball team takes on St. Cloud State and Minnesota State.
Monday, Nov. 9
“American Sniper”: 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theater. Rated R.
Learn to Dance the Flamenco: 7 to 8:15 p.m., Taylor Performing Arts Center. A hands-on workshop including a brief history of the dance’s origins. By the end of the class, participants will be able to perform a simple choreographed dance.
Tuesday, Nov. 10
Churros Gratis!: 10:30 a.m., Billingsly Student Center. Students can swing by the Lion's Den and get a churro courtesy of the Campus Activities Board.
“Unbroken”: 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theater. Rated PG-13.
Poema de AndalucĂ­a by Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana: 7:30 to 9 p.m., Taylor Performing Arts Center. A journey through the alluring cultures and traditions of the Andalusian provinces that form the cradle of flamenco. Through the language of Flamenco, this special performance will pay tribute to the land and people of Andalusia.
Wednesday, Nov. 11
Study Abroad Fair: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Connor Ballroom in Billingsly Student Center.
Veterans Day Ceremony: Noon, Freedom Flag Plaza. Guest speakers will be Rep. Charlie Davis and Dr. Alan Marble, university president.
CrossFit Competition: 6:30 p.m., Fred G. Hughes Stadium. $10 entry fee; registration available starting at 6 p.m. the day of the event, or in person at JOMO CrossFit or the Show-Me GOLD offices at Missouri Southern (in the Mills Anderson Criminal Justice Center).
Thursday, Nov. 12
Custom Mouse Pads: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Lion’s Den. Students can share a favorite photo to create a custom mouse pad.
Veterans Appreciation Luncheon: Noon, Connor Ballroom in Billingsly Student Center. The luncheon will be hosted by the Student Veterans Organization and the Missouri Army National Guard. Open to the public; contact Travis Lewis at 417-350-6491 to RSVP.
Friday, Nov. 13
Men’s Basketball vs St. Cloud State: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
Saturday, Nov. 14
Men’s Basketball vs Minnesota State: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.
