Jasper County Sheriff plans 10th annual Shop with a Deputy

(From the Jasper County Sheriff's Office)

It is never too early to get into the Christmas Spirit! Christmas will be here before you know it.

The Jasper County Sheriff's Office is working towards its 10th annual Shop With a Deputy shopping event.

The Shop With a Deputy program is made up of volunteers who try to help make Christmas a better time for local area families who may need assistance. The program was started 10 years ago by the Sheriff's Office and a handful of business owners who wanted to ensure local needy children had Christmas available to them when their parents were struggling financially. Children are selected for the program through partnerships the Sheriff's Office has with elementary schools, the Division of Family Services, and the Jasper County Juvenile Office.

The event is supported completely through private and company donations as well as fundraising. Each child is allowed to spend up to $100.00 at Wal-Mart during the shopping event and are paired up with a shopping volunteer. Our shopping volunteers are made up of members of the Jasper County Sheriff's Office, families of our employees, local business employees, staff from the Juvenile Office, Division of Family Services, The Children's Center, Jasper County courts, and school employees.

The goals of the program is providing Christmas gifts to children, making positive impacts on families, and building relationships with our community, children and their parents.

We accept monetary donations throughout the year to support the Shop With a Deputy program for the upcoming Christmas season.

Please direct all inquires to Cpl. Matt Terry, Cpl. Matt Smith, and Det. Tim Williams at (417) 358-8177 or (417) 359-9100.

Let's work together to make Christmas special for these kids.
