Remembering Officer Tim Nielson

(From the Joplin Police Department)

Today, we remember Joplin Police Officer Tim Nielson, JPD 240, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

On this day in 2004, Officer Tim Nielson passed away from injuries he sustained on August 10th, 2004. Tim and another officer had responded to a suicidal subject call, and the house exploded with officers inside. It was later determined the suicidal subject had filled the house with natural gas. During the incident Tim was burned over 45% of his body and spent the next several weeks fighting for his life in a Springfield hospital.

Tim left behind a family, friends, and many co-workers, many of which sitll work for our department today.

We will not forget Tim's sacrifice for our community, nor the sacrifices his family has gone through in his loss.
