Sheriff's Office provides advice for deer firearm season

(From the Jasper County Sheriff's Office)

This weekend is the opening day of the Missouri Deer firearm season. Some of you will be hearing random shots throughout the county (depending on where you live of course). If you are going into the woods it is always safest to wear hunter’s orange, even if you are not hunting.

Every year close to 900,000 hunters take to the woods to hunt deer throughout the state of Missouri. We would like to wish everyone who chooses to participates a successful and safe season this year. (Remember you do not have to harvest an animal to have a successful season. It is all about the memories, and the time with family and friends in God's creation.)

Hunters please be respectful of property lines. DO NOT TRESSPASS! Do not enter onto someone else’s property without permission. If you harvest a deer and it crosses property lines, you MUST have permission from the land owner to enter their property and retrieve the animal. Pay attention to what is behind your target when you shoot. Never take a questionable shot. Do not climb into your stand with a loaded fire arm. Unload your firearm, and then pull it up to you with a rope. Do not cross a fence with a loaded firearm.

Each of you had to take the Hunter’s Safety program to be able to purchase you firearm hunting license. Please follow what you have learned.

Again be careful, be respectful of other people’s property, and good luck. Make it a safe season.
