Captain Juan Villanueva, commanding officer of Troop D, Springfield, announces the 2017 Labor Day weekend traffic crash and enforcement totals for the Troop D area, which consists of the 18 southwest counties of Missouri. During the holiday weekend, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness Reduction Effort). In addition, troopers took part in a holiday traffic crash reduction enforcement operation on Interstate 44 on Friday, September 1, 2017, and Monday, September 4, 2017.
During the 2017 Labor Day weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m., Friday, September 1, and ended at 11:59 p.m., Monday, September 4, Troop D officers investigated 62 traffic crashes resulting in 21 injuries and no fatalities. Preliminary enforcement totals show troopers made 23 arrests for driving while intoxicated and six arrests for boating while intoxicated. There were no boating crashes or drownings in the Troop D area during the holiday weekend.
"The mission of the Missouri State Highway Patrol is to serve and protect all people by enforcing laws and providing services to ensure a safe and secure environment. I am pleased to announce there were zero fatalities in Troop D over the holiday weekend and I feel our officers accomplished their mission." stated Captain Villanueva.
