Police arrest Joplin bicyclist, confiscate marijuana, baggie of meth

(From the Joplin Police Department)

Incident Spotlight

This morning at 12:36 a.m.one of our officers saw a male riding a bicycle in the 100 block of South Sergeant.

The male failed to stop for a stop sign at A Street and Sergeant, northbound. The officer activated his lights to stop the bicycle, and the male looked back at him and began peddling faster northbound. He ran more stop signs and rode on the sidewalk before crashing his bicycle at C and Sergeant. He then got up and ran on foot to the east.

The officer chased him through backyards and fences before losing him. Officers and K9's checked the area and were unable to locate him.

The initial officer reviewed his in-car video and identified a likely area he thought he may be. After checking the area some more he checked a garage behind 329 North Sergeant, and the door wouldn't open. He looked through the window and saw the suspect in the fetal position inside the garage hiding. He refused to come out, so another officer forced open the door and the male was arrested.

Where he was laying was marijuana, a syringe and a baggie of crystal substance. He also had Joplin City Warrants and a felony Jasper County Warrant with total bonds of $15,000.

The 30-year-old Joplin male is now facing numerous additional charges.
