Teen involved in Friday car crash at Newman and Goetz dies at local hospital

Friday night Crash Turns Fatal

We have learned that Elly Liebenguth, 18, has died from her injuries sustained in the Friday night crash at Newman and Goetz. This makes an already tragic weekend even more devastating to our community.

The original release on that crash is below:

On Friday September 15, 2017 at 9:28PM Officers responded to Newman and Goetz, to the west, for an injury crash. 

Emily M Davidson, 19, Walker, Missouri, was eastbound on Newman in a 2008 Dodge Caliber. She ran into the rear of an eastbound Tao Scooter driven by Keller S Hayes, 19, Harrisonville, Missouri with his passenger, Elly M Liebenguth, 18, from Garden City, Missouri. 

Hayes was transported by ambulance for moderate injuries. Liebenguth was transported by ambulance in critical condition. Davidson was not injured. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash. 

The Joplin Police Department Major Crash Investigation Team responded and it is under investigation.
