Southern Theatre will present “Antigone” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, through Saturday, Sept. 30, in the Bud Walton Theatre on campus.
Jean Anouilh’s version of Sophocles’ timeless play was born in Paris during the Nazi occupation. The collision of personal conviction with government mandate resonated with Anouilh’s audience and continues to echo in our time. After the opening of the original production in 1946, Helen Keller commented, ‘This play is a parable of humanity. It has no time or space.’
The show will be directed by Dr. Jim Lile. Admission is $7 for adults, and $5 for seniors and students. Tickets will be available at the door. The box office will open at 6:30 p.m. for each performance.
