Lamar residents arrested in Golden City following high-speed chase

(From the Barton County Sheriff's Office)

Barton County Prosecuting Attorney Steven Kaderly has filed for a warrant for the arrest of Ary Dwayne Cliett, on the charge of resisting a lawful detention, a class E Felony.

Judge James Nichols has set a bond amount of $100,000 dollars cash or surety. The warrant has been served to Cliett and he remains incarcerated in the Barton County Jail.

On September 25th 2017, the Ozarks drug enforcement team, Jasper County SWAT, and deputies from the Barton County Sheriff’s Office executed a narcotics related search warrant in the Kenoma, area.

As SWAT officers approached the property a male and female subject got into a flatbed truck and fled. While one group of officers secured the property that was getting ready to be searched, another group followed the truck, while a police helicopter followed the fleeing truck and observed it from the air.

The occupants of the truck drove at dangerously high speeds and at times operated the vehicle without its headlights on. The suspect traveled numerous county roads finally ending up in Golden City.

When the vehicle stopped, the two occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The helicopter observed the driver of the vehicle go to a residence. The helicopter was able to guide ground units to the home. The residence was occupied by one adult female, and to juvenile children. After a short standoff, a male subject was arrested after he exited out of a bathroom in the home.

The two minor children who were in the home were transported to a safe place due to the condition of the home and the presence of illegal substances in the home. The Department of Family Services were contacted and responded to the home and assisted in the investigation which is currently ongoing.

A short while later, the female subject which was in the vehicle, was located hiding behind a building a short distance away from the truck. The two subjects who were arrested are Ary D. Cliett, 32 and Chanstin Besendorfer, age 25 both of Lamar. At this time both suspects are being held at the Barton County Jail on a 24-hour hold for investigation awaiting filing of formal criminal charges by the Barton County prosecutor.
