Joplin News First: Dogs rescued from Hurricane Harvey to be in Joplin Tuesday night

Joplin News First posted another scoop last week about dogs that have been rescued from Hurricane Harvey. The video can be seen at this link.

(From Joplin News First)

Hurricane Harvey didn't just displace people, but also pets. Since our Joplin tornado we know first hand there are tens of thousands of animals in Texas that need help. Next Tuesday night they are staying in Joplin since it's the halfway point to their new home in the Twin Cities.

"Next Tuesday 30+ dogs will be traveling from Houston to their new home at a shelter North of Minneapolis," Lynne at Furry Hearts tells Joplin News First. "Joplin is their halfway point where dogs and drivers will stay the night at an undisclosed location - but we will need some help!"

It's Joplin's chance to give back. They need these two things as of right now:

1. Donations to their new shelter home in Minnesota that is paying for the cost of travel and 4 expert drivers. Click www.GoodKarmaMN.org or PayPal donate@GoodKarmaMN.org

2. Food donation/meal to feed 30 volunteers for Tuesday evening dinner and/or a light to-go coffee & breakfast Wednesday morning. Contact Lynne if you can help: FurryHearts312@gmail.com

These 30+ dogs will not be available for adoption in Joplin. The costs of travel are being funded by their new home shelter in Minnesota, Good Karma Animal Shelter, Minneapolis, MN. A non-profit organization.

This trip and transfer of these animals is being organized by a local liaison Furry Hearts. They are already overwhelmed with more than enough volunteers to help the dogs (walking, feeding etc) but watch the text in this story to be updated as needed.

MORE DETAILS:

The local liaison is Furry Hearts contact is Lynne, FurryHearts312@gmail.com if you have questions or concerns. They remind Joplin none of the pets are available for adoption in Joplin. They encourage you to adopt and support the local Joplin shelters.

Lynne reminds us all, "It is incredibly expensive for an Animal Rescue to handle so many dogs at once. Not just the trip is costly, but also the vetting when the animals arrive to Minnesota. Including: spay/neuter, heartworm and tick checks, fecals/worming, flea/tick treatments, microchiping, grooming, and all vaccinations."
