A senior at Joplin High School has earned the top award in the Four States region in a prestigious speech contest.
Megan Petersen won the 4-Way Test Speech Contest at the Rotary District 6110 annual meeting. Each year the Joplin Rotary Club hosts a contest for youth to deliver a speech on the Four-Way Test.
The winner of the Joplin area contest moves on to the district level, and has the opportunity to win a $1,000 cash prize. Rotary District 6110 covers the entire Four-State region (see map here) , and Megan is the first student from the Joplin area to win the overall 1st Place prize.
Four youth competed in the finals: Addie Jones from Harrison, Ark., Brooke Duncan from Mt. Vernon, Mo., Abigail Bellatti from Tulsa, Okla., and Megan Petersen from Joplin.
“Demonstrating the highest ideals and goals of Rotary, the 4-Way Test Speech Contest teaches the principles of the Four Way Test and assists youth in furthering their education and future with monetary awards,” said past district governor Ron Petersen, Sr., speech contest co-chair. “It remains one of the most popular programs held at the club and district level.”
