Explosion reported at Carthage Technical Center, student life-flighted for emergency treatment

A student was taken to an area hospital then flown to another hospital for treatment following an explosion at the Carthage Technical Center shortly after 10 a.m. today.

Emergency crews, including Carthage Police Department, Carthage Fire Department and EMS crews responded to the scene, according to KOAM.

The following statement was released by Carthage High School Principal Matt Huntley:

This morning, Carthage Emergency Teams were called to the Carthage High School/Carthage South Tech Campus responding to an accident involving a Carthage student. As there is always social media chatter about things, I want to take a moment to address the issue.

CHS and CTC want to acknowledge that there was an accident; we thank emergency responders and school staff for their quick actions; and we wish to respect the privacy of the student and his family as they are being cared for.

We, of course, appreciate all prayers and well-wishes.
