On Sunday, September 1, an officer with the Lamar Police Department was in the 700 block of Poplar where he observed a UTV driving erratically and through yards.
The officer attempted to stop the UTV near 6th and Broadway. The UTV, which was occupied by three people, failed to stop and eluded officers fleeing through yards.
While looking for the UTV, officers were called to the area of 4th and Walnut in regard to a male crawling out of a garage window.
At the same time, another officer located a juvenile believed to be involved with the UTV around 10th and Gulf.
The juvenile was detained and transported to detention for being a runaway out of El Dorado Springs. Missouri.
K-9 Hondo was summoned and conducted a track looking for the suspect that had committed a burglary at 4th and Walnut. A male was contacted at the residence and determined to not be a part of the other crimes that had occurred.
A Barton County Sheriff's deputy who was in the area assisted with the call. He located a male neaer 7th and Broadway. While conducting the investigation, it was determined the male, Bradley S. Schnedler, 32, Nevada, was involved in the crime and he was arrested.
It was learned Schnedler had driven the red, four-door BMW west of Lamar for an unknown reason. It is believed he then stole the UTV from a business and drove it into town. He arranged to steal a vehicle near 4th and Walnut.
The stolen UTV was located near 4th and Walnut, covered with foliage.
Later in the day, a second juvenile who had been involved was reported as a runaway form Lamar and was located Monday.
Schnedler's red BMW as located in the cornfield with the assistance of an off-duty fireman using a drone.
This case is ongoing and a complete list of charges are not yet available. Schnedler is being held in the Barton County Jail without bond on the charge of second degree burglary.
