New KGCS feature dips into archives, beginning with 2014 Julio Leon interview

(From Southern News Service)

Area television viewers will be able to take a step back in time this fall thanks to a number of programs on KGCS-TV that focus on Missouri Southern’s past.

“KGCS Rewind” features past guests and storylines.

“We’re celebrating 35 years of television here at Missouri Southern,” said Judy Stiles, KGCS general manager. “The programs from our archives range from student-produced shows to ones involving the community.”

The first show, which is airing this week, features an interview from 2014 with former MSSU President Dr. Julio S. León and his wife, Vivian. The second show will feature a student-produced newscast from 2017.

“One thing that has remained constant throughout the station’s history is the ability for students to gain hands-on experience in television,” added Stiles.

KGCS is planning a reunion during this year’s Homecoming weekend, with a dinner scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5. Information has been sent out by the MSSU Alumni Office. Graduates wanting more information may contact Stiles at (417) 625-9777 or via email: stiles-j@mssu.edu.

KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21. It is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight (formerly Cable One), Mediacom and Suddenlink Communications. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
