According to a KOAM bulletin issued a few moments Jasper County Sheriff Randee Kaiser said the man was found dead from a gunshot wound on property that was being searched by local law enforcement, including Jasper County deputies and the Joplln Police Department SWAT unit.
Kaiser did not elaborate about whether the suspect was shot or if his wounds were self-inflicted.
The deputy who was shot in the leg earlier today was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The shooting occurred at 5206 Gerbitz in Joplin.
