Lockwood woman takes first place in international student design competition

Jolean Hackney, daughter of Craig and LaNita Hackney, Lockwood, took first place in the 2020 PAVE Student Design Competition in collaboration with SketchUp.

This annual competition by the Planning and Visual Education Partnership (PAVE) is geared toward college-level students in over 50 countries involved in retail planning, visual merchandising and branding programs.

PAVE’s design challenge provides an excellent opportunity for students to obtain real life retail design experience. The competition emphasized how the role of technology in shaping design and architecture cannot be underestimated, becoming even more evident during the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The competition featured a challenge to design a brand experience for Sketchup that would take the form of a pop-up space, adaptable, mobile and transformable highlighting specific industries of architecture, commercial interiors, construction, kitchen/bath/interior design, landscape architecture, 3D printing and residential construction, urban planning and woodworking.

Jolean is a senior interior design student at Missouri State University in Springfield. She feels honored to have won this competition and is proud to represent MSU’s Interior Design Program and the university. She is passionate about interior design. Her goal, when designing spaces, is to make them beautiful while focusing on the functionality of the space.

Jolean will graduate from MSU in May, 2020. You can check out her SketchUp PopUp Shop, “Pick Your Path” and other designs at jh-interiordesigns.com.
