Riverton man arrested for Columbus burglary, assaulting an officer, meth charge

Cherokee County deputies were dispatched to a rural Columbus home Tuesday afternoon after a property owner discovered a burglary in progress.

As law enforcement were responding to the scene, the suspect fled in a Nissan truck. Deputies intercepted the suspect near Southwest 30th and Greenlawn, where he drove into a field prior to fleeing on foot.

Law enforcement began a search, which included the use of a Cherokee County Sheriff's Office K9 Team and an aircraft, which was deployed out of Wichita.








After approximately three hours, the suspect, 23-year-old Jacob Isaiah Huffman, of Riverton, was located and taken into custody.

Huffman is being held in the Cherokee County Jail on allegations of Residential Burglary, Theft, Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Obstruction of Justice, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
