(From the Joplin Police Department)On Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at approximately 07:16 am the Joplin Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle crash on Murphy Boulevard just north of the Broadway Steet viaduct.
Officers located a passenger vehicle upside down in the creek along the west side of Murphy Boulevard. There was one adult male occupant who died at the scene. His name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
The initial investigation showed the vehicle struck multiple light poles before overturning and going into the creek, where the vehicle came to rest.
The Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team is actively working the crash investigation and further details will be released once they become available.
This fatality marks the 12th fatal crash in Joplin in 2020 and we remined all drivers to exercise caution and safety while driving
