MSSU international student program featured on Newsmakers

Students are traveling across the globe to attend college classes at Missouri Southern State University. Approximately 120 new international students will arrive on campus in August as part of MSSU’s International Student Program which is the focus of the next Newsmakers.

Aaron Carmichael, Director of the Intensive English Program, and International Student Services Coordinator Heather Ali discuss the process for these students from visas to immunizations. Students Momoe Kamata from Japan and Maksym “Max” Andurukhiv from Ukraine, talk about getting acclimated to life in a new country and how having a Friendship Family can help. 






Mike and Ann Jernigan have welcomed many students into their family on holidays, birthdays and beyond, and share their personal experiences of hosting international students and the bonds that creates..

Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. the week of August 11 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, August 17 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS - Missouri Southern State University.

KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet in Carthage. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
