(From the City of Joplin)
Community leaders have developed a general citizens’ survey to gauge the public’s ideas and opinions about several areas concerning Joplin and the future of our city. The survey can be completed electronically by clicking on the link at the end of this news release, or citizens may complete a hard copy of the survey at the Joplin Public Library. The survey is open to all citizens, regardless of residency.
The survey is a product of a work session held earlier this summer when the governing boards and executive leadership of the City of Joplin, Joplin Schools, Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce and Missouri Southern State University met to begin developing a vision for the future of Joplin. The daylong meeting held much discussion regarding rebuilding, development, ongoing projects, long-range goals and the overall future of Joplin.
The group developed five central goals or "themes," with each "theme" encompassing more specific goals related to the primary topic. The leadership is seeking the community’s perception of these areas and requested a survey to be conducted to gauge the public’s interests and priorities of these issues. With the survey findings, a clearer focus on the future of Joplin can be established.
The opening of the survey asks citizens to participate with the following statement:
“As a member of the Joplin community, your opinion matters, and Joplin area leadership wants to hear from you! Attached is a survey to learn more about what is important to you regarding the Joplin area. This survey is meant to gauge how the public feels about various themes and specific goals.
Please take a few minutes to complete this survey to provide feedback. The survey will be available until August 24.
After tabulating the results, this information will be shared with Joplin area leadership, as well as the public as Joplin moves forward with a brighter vision. Joplin leadership values your views and wants to include the public's thoughts into a thorough plan for our future.”
