MODOT offers 171/43 Roundabout update- Drivers urged to find alternate routes next week

Route 43/Route 171 Roundabout Construction
Update for Week of July 14, 2014
 
ONE LANE OF ROUNDABOUT SET TO OPEN AT 6:30 P.M. MONDAY NIGHT, JULY 14.  DRIVERS ARE URGED TO USE CAUTION WHEN NAVIGATING THE NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN AT ROUTE 171 AND ROUTE 43.
Contractor crews will CLOSE the intersection of Route 171/Route 43 briefly at 6:30 p.m. to make the final adjustments needed to convert the intersection.  During the closing, drivers are urged to find alternate routes around the area.
Work scheduled:
  • Configure for temporary single-lane roundabout Monday evening
  • Remove islands
  • Drop traffic signals
  • Install curbs and gutters
  • Pave shoulders and driveways
  • Lay asphalt
  • Stripe lanes
Traffic Impacts:
  • On Monday night, the Route 171/Route 43 intersection will be CLOSED briefly at 6:30 p.m.
  • Crews will work ‘round the clock
  • Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to find alternate routes if possible
Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.
Project Background:
  • Build two-lane roundabout at Route 171/Route 43 intersection in Airport Drive
  • Widen Route 171 to five-lanes (two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane) between Route 43 to just east of Fir Road
  • Prime Contractor: APAC, Springfield
  • Completion Date: August 28, 2014
  • Construction Cost: $2.6 million
