(From the City of Joplin)
Earlier in the year, Joplin Parks and Recreation launched two surveys to ascertain the public’s thoughts of the department’s services. The first survey was a Community Attitude and Interest Survey, and the second survey was for users of Schifferdecker Golf Course.
The Community Attitude and Interest Survey ran through May, June and July of 2014. The survey’s objective was to establish priorities for future improvements to our parks and recreation facilities, programs and services. Offered through both written and electronic methods, the survey was designed to obtain statistically valid results from households throughout the City of Joplin area based on the available resources.
Staff set a goal to obtain 600 completed surveys. In the end, the Parks department received 466 completed surveys with a 95% confidence level, with a precision of at least +/- 4.5 percentage. City staff has taken note that respondents expressed a high need for more indoor recreation amenities. Survey respondents also placed a high or very high priority on the importance of City officials concentrating on the maintenance of parks, trails and recreation facilities.
The survey results can be found on the City of Joplin website by clicking on the link at the end of this story. If individuals have questions or comments concerning the survey, please contact Scott Garrie, Assistant Director of Joplin Parks and Recreation, at 417-624-6937.
