Fryer fire causes fire, smoke, water damage at 7th Street Sonic

(From Joplin Fire Department)

The Joplin Fire Department responded at 6:21 AM on Thursday, 12 March, to a report of a structure fire with fryers on fire at 1030 E 7th Street (Sonic Drive In), Joplin. Arriving on scene at 6:25 AM crews found a 1 story metal frame structure with heavy smoke coming out of the vent and smoke showing inside the business. Crews extinguished the fire and determined that there were no other hot spots. The fire was declared under control at 7:01 AM. Crews remained on scene until 8:05 AM.
The structure suffered fire, smoke and water damage. The business is owned by Gary Jackson.

SIx Fire units and 20 firefighters responded to the scene, as well as JPD and METS. There were no injuries at the scene.

At this time the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal, but does appear to have started at the fryers.
