Joplin Fire Chief James Furgerson announced Andy Nimmo as the Deputy Chief for the Joplin Fire Department.
Nimmo began his career with Joplin Fire Department in March 2013 as the Chief of Training/Special Operations. He began his fire service career in 1991 with Redings Mill Fire District where he held the ranks of fire fighter, Assistant Chief, and was appointed the Chief of the department in 1999.
“Andy’s experience in fire service and his leadership abilities are great assets to the Fire Department and the community,” said Chief Furgerson.
Nimmo has served as the President of the Ozark Gateway Chiefs Association and has been appointed to numerous committees such as Federal Medal of Valor Committee and the Missouri State Fire Service Advisory Board. Nimmo is a paramedic and currently works for Newton County Ambulance. He also is an adjunct instructor for Crowder College.
He holds certifications as a Haz-Mat Technician and Fire Service Instructor and currently holds an Associate Degree in Fire Science. He is currently pursuing a Management degree at Missouri Southern.
The promotion was effective on March 21, 2015. The Deputy Fire Chief position became vacant upon former Deputy Chief Jim Furgerson being named Fire Chief in January this year.
