Resurfacing of Route 43 in Joplin delayed until next month

(From MODOT)

Due to scheduling issues, the contractor has postponed the start of a project to resurface nearly three miles of Missouri Route 43 (Main Street) in Joplin to early September, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Contractor crews will grind off the top layer of old asphalt and resurface Route 43 from a point north of Murphy Boulevard north to just south of the Stone’s Corner roundabout at Route 43 and Missouri Route 171 in Airport Drive.

Drivers can expect some delays and lane closings where crews are set up working. One lane in each direction will remain open to traffic at all times throughout the project. It is possible that drivers will have to travel over bumps where crews have ground off the old asphalt. These areas will be smoothed out as new asphalt is laid on Route 43.

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.

Project Information
Prime contractor: Blevins Asphalt Construction Co., Inc., Mt. Vernon
Cost: $638,000
