Woman injured after vehicle hit by semi on I-44 near Joplin

A Pittsburg, Kansas, woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident 6:25 p.m. Monday on I-44 five miles east of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1990 Chevrolet 1500 driven by Melissa A. Barker, 35, Pittsburg, was traveling at a slow speed in the driving lane and was struck in the rear by a 2016 Kenworth driven by Craig M. Furness, 52, Morrisonville, Illinois.

The Barker vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck the cable barrier.

Barker was treated for moderate injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.
