Carl Junction man, Jasper residents injured in head on collision

Three people were injured in a two-vehicle accident 5:40 p.m. today on MO 43, two miles north of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2013 Kia Soul driven by Steven M. Smith, 23, Carl Junction, attempted to make a left turn onto Gum Road and failed to yield to a 2001 Ford F-150 driven by Clinton W. Smith, 58, Jasper. The vehicles collided in the intersection, striking almost head-on and came to rest off the west side of the roadway.

The drivers were treated for moderate injuries and a passenger in the Clinton Smith vehicle, Carrie W. Smith, 58, Jasper, for minor injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
