SWAT team captures Joplin felon after six-hour plus standoff at Motel 6

This morning just before 7:00 a.m. the Joplin Police Department responded to Motel 6 in the 3000 block of S. Range Line Road.

Officers were attempting to arrest a wanted felon, Donald B. Loomis (34) of Joplin who was supposed to be staying at the hotel. 

Loomis had active felony warrants out of Ottawa County Oklahoma for failing to appear on the charges of; two counts of possessing a stolen vehicle, eluding a police officer, and malicious injury to property. 

Out of Jasper County Missouri he had an active felony warrant for failing to appear on the charge of resisting officers. He also had two local Joplin warrants for traffic violations. 

After establishing that Loomis was in the hotel, officers attempted to make contact with him. 

After a brief conversation all communications stopped. The Joplin S.W.A.T. Team was called in to effect the arrest. At about 1:40 p.m. after it was determine Loomis was in the attic officers deployed a police K9 which engaged Mr. Loomis. 

Loomis was taken into custody without further resistance and was transported to the Joplin City Jail.
