Jasper man killed in collision with semi on 96

A Jasper man was killed in a two-vehicle accident 7:08 a.m. today on MO 96, two miles north of Carl Junction.

According to the Highway Patrol report, Jacob N. Holliday, 21, Jasper, was in the process of passing a vehicle or vehicles, failed to get back into the right lane on time and was struck on the driver's side by a 2016 Kenworth Conventional driven by Scott A. Reed, 44, Sarcoxie.

Holliday was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Coroner Rob Chappel at 7:24 a.m.

Reed was treated for minor injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

Traffic was shut down for approximately four hours in the area of the accident.

The fatality was the 72nd this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
