Joplin woman killed, five injured, seven vehicles damaged in crash at 6th and Joplin

(From the Joplin Police Department)

The Joplin Police Department responded to a serious crash at 6th and Joplin at 4:43 p.m. on October 4, 2018.

A 2005 Buick driven by Annita Miller of Webb City was eastbound on 6th at Joplin Ave. Miller began to cross Joplin and her vehicle was struck by a 2012 Ford Focus driven by Michael Kailer of Joplin, who was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Joplin.

Two back seat passengers of the Buick were ejected. One passenger suffered moderate injuries. The other passenger, Misty Pietrzak, 43 of Joplin was transported to Freeman West where she died from her injuries.

A total of seven vehicles were damaged in this crash either directly from impact or flying debris. Five people were transported for injuries in this crash.

Initially, we were seeking a black Jeep Grand Cherokee who had left the scene. At this time we are still investigating it’s possible involvement and interviewing witnesses, although we are not actively seeking that vehicle. The Joplin Police Department Major Crash Team is investigating this crash.
