Lane shifts scheduled on 20th Street while paving work is done

(From the City of Joplin)

As recovery work progresses, travelers will experience lane shifts in two areas of East 20th Street starting Thursday, October 18 for milling and paving operations. Work should be completed by Tuesday, Oct. 23, weather permitting.

Milling will begin on Oct. 18 from Range Line to Murphy Boulevard and will progress to the inside lanes of 20thfrom Indiana Avenue to Main Street, using Friday, Oct. 19 to complete this phase.

Paving on the stretch of 20th from Range Line to Murphy Boulevard is anticipated to begin Thursday, Oct. 18. Paving of this section should be completed by end of Monday, Oct. 22, with crews working on Saturday, Oct. 20 as necessary.

Paving of 20th from Indiana Ave. to Main St. will start on Saturday, Oct. 20 and will continue if needed on Sunday, Oct. 21 until this section is completed. Work in this area is being done over the weekend to prevent disruptions with Joplin High School.

The inside lanes of 20th St. from Indiana Ave. to Main St. are being redone to correct a smoothness issue that occurred during the initial paving of this section of the roadway. This portion is being corrected by the contractor as part of their quality control program, with no additional cost to the City of Joplin.

Temporary striping will be utilized until permanent striping is applied on or around October 22. D & E Construction is the contractor for the project, with Blevins Construction as the paving subcontractor.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes during this time as the City of Joplin works towards completion of this commercial corridor. We thank you for your extreme patience and understanding as we work towards completion of another project in the disaster recovery efforts.
