Roads closed in area of 6th and Joplin following crash that leaves one dead, another in critical condition

The Joplin Police Department responded to a serious crash at 6th and Joplin at 4:43 p.m. today.

When officers arrived, there were numerous witnesses, vehicles and victims. Four patients were transported to local hospitals. Two of those patients were transported in critical condition, and one has since died.

The Major Crash Team is on scene investigating and roads are closed in the area. 

No names or details are being released yet, but we are asking for public assistance in locating a vehicle that fled the scene. 

The vehicle is described as a black Jeep Cherokee with front end damage, driven by a white male. We need to identify that vehicle and driver and speak to him. Anyone with information please call 417-623-3131.
