Neosho Arts Council schedules annual Thomas Hart Benton Art Competition and Exhibition

(From the Neosho Arts Council)

Neosho Arts Council will present awards and critiques by judge Christian Burke on September 14 as part of the 24th Annual Thomas Hart Benton Art Competition and Exhibition.

“We invite the whole community to join us for the judge’s remarks as it’s a unique opportunity to actually hear why a piece won the award it did,” said Sarah Serio, president of the Neosho Arts Council.

Christian Burke, Curator of Native American and Non-Western Art at the Philbrook Museum of Art, will give a brief critique on the winning works speaking to the element that were award worthy. She will then be on hand at the reception that follows.

"This event was created to honor famed regionalist painter Thomas Hart Benton, a Neosho native, while creating an opportunity for area artists to exhibit their work and be seen by the community," explained Serio. “We invite the public to come see this great showing of diverse work by area artists. It’s a unique mix of style and subject matter so there is something for everyone.”

“Each piece in this show is an original, there are no giclĂ©e copies, so this is a great place to find a piece. Buying art for your home or office will give your space character and warmth while supporting the artist so they can continue creating work,” Serio added. “Each piece in this show is for sale and we are here to help make those sales happen.”

The exhibition is free and open to the public viewing Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm at 216 West Spring Street, Neosho, MO. Visit www.neoshoarts.net for more details.
