Former Chiefs great Deron Cherry battling speeding ticket in Jasper County

Deron Cherry may have lost a step or two since he ended his career as a strong safety for the Kansas City Chiefs in 1991, but he can still fly up and down the highway.

A 9 a.m. July 8 arraignment is scheduled before Judge Joseph Schoeberl in Jasper County Circuit Court for Cherry, 59, Greenwood, on a speeding charge.

According to online court records, Cherry was pulled over April 14 for going one to five miles over the speed limit, but failed to pay the fine by May 19 when it was due. He later entered a not guilty plea and is represented by Kansas City attorney Samuel J. Buccero.

Cherry was named All-Pro six times during his 10 years with the Chiefs, recording more than 50 interceptions and recovering 15 fumbles.
