Joplin man arrested for multiple felonies following high-speed chase

08-01-2016, at 10:39 PM Joplin Police attempted to stop a 2002 blue Ford F-150 truck near 7th St. and St. Louis Ave. for improper registration.

The vehicle fled north at normal speeds. It turned east onto 4th St. and continued at normal speeds but repeatedly crossed over the center dividing lines. The vehicle then turned south onto Florida Ave. from 4th St.

When the vehicle turned onto Florida Ave. until it reached 7th St. where it ran a red light at the intersection of 7th St. and Florida Ave. as it turned east onto 7th St. The vehicle sped up to approximately  fifty miles per hour.

The vehicle turned south onto Range Line Rd. from 7th St. but only reached speeds of 41 mph. The vehicle turned west onto 15th St. from Range Line and came to a final stop just west of the intersection of 15th St. and Highview Ave. )

The driver was identified as Anthony W. Barandas, 46, Joplin. The vehicle was identified as a stolen vehicle from Belton, Mo.

During an inventory search of the stolen vehicle, officers located methamphetamine. Barandas had an active felony warrant for his arrest for DUI related to a pursuit involving Joplin Police on July 25, 2016.

Barandas was also arrested for Felony Driving While Revoked, Receiving Stolen Property, Felony Resisting Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Charges were submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor`s Office.
